Sweet Sun, poem by Ariela Rose
What do you see on your side?
There
on the other side of the equator?
On mine
your eyes
set on me
like the setting sun
Sun set on my body
like sunset
on the highest mountain top
hot
and ready
to dance or die
Are you reciprocal
of my intention
or my amateur
lack of devotion?
I act cavalier as a cat
though my heart
is just a mendicant
in penitence
The sun favors my skin
but does it care for my soul?
Here
on my side of the equator
dear
I see a story
It comes out pouring
making things
concrete
for the past is one of
heaven's finest architects
where now
everything
makes sense
though it feels like waves
crashing
over a beached kid
all-knowing
how to swim
but cries
he isn't ready
And you stare
inside my body and such
the sun crept
into a cave
Good Lord
what do I do?
Perhaps you've tried to
fetch me
but you've only sent me
further;
further down
this dark
incredible cave
It is cool down here
It's inviting
Reach for me
sweet sun
I'm home now
and I want to see
what's more
